NICOLA O'REILLY

Lecturer Early Childhood Education, DCU

Nicola O’ Reilly, B. Soc. Sc., M.Ed., AFHEA, is a Lecturer and Researcher in the School of Language, Literacy and Early Childhood Education in DCU, teaching Inquiry Based Learning & STEM in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Technology in ECE and Early Maths. She is also a PhD candidate in both this School and the School of STEM, Innovation, Education and Global Studies in DCU (Supervisors: Professor Hamsa Venkat and Associate Professor Geraldine French). Her research focus is on STEM, with her PhD research focusing on educators actively supporting STEM learning through sociodramatic play in ECE settings. She conducts research and provides professional development on a number of different projects related to STEM/STEAM in Early Childhood and is the Co-Chair of the EC STEAM Network, a Community of Practice for ECE and Primary educators, teacher educators and other professionals with an interest in EC STEAM learning. Nicola was involved in the research underpinning the Doodle STEAM Programme, ran the Pilot programme for Doodle STEAM and has been involved in the training of the HSCLs for the Doodle STEAM Programme since its inception. She feels passionately about providing all young children with access to opportunities for early STEM/STEAM learning.
