MARGUERITE BARRY

Assc. Professor Human Computer Interaction, UCD & ADAPT

Dr Marguerite Barry is a funded investigator with ADAPT, the SFI Research Centre for Digital Content Technology and is Assistant Professor at the School of Information & Communication Studies in University College Dublin. Her work is based in human-computer interaction (HCI) and digital media studies and focuses on ethics in the design of digital technologies – especially in developing practical tools and methods to help researchers, practitioners and impacted communities to come together and demand and design a better digital world. Recent projects include the Ethics Studio at the Beta Festival of Art & Technology, which aims to create a space for conversation and co-creation between the visiting public, artists and researchers, to inform the development of ethical automated and digital technologies. Her academic publications have also explored algorithmic vulnerability, ethical design for technologies to support wellbeing and the social expectations and public communication of ‘ethical’ AI.
