ELAINE MCGOFF

Head of Advocacy, An Taisce

Dr. Elaine McGoff is Head of Advocacy with An Taisce, one of Ireland's oldest and largest environmental organisations. She works on a broad range of topics from forestry and aquaculture, to land use and water quality. Her broad role gives her insight into the connections between the different policies, such as the impact of current agricultural policy and targets on biodiversity loss and water quality.  As part of An Taisce’s role as a statutory consultee for planning and some licencing, Elaine reviews ecologically sensitive licensing and planning applications across a range of sectors, with a view to ensuring compliance with EU and National environmental law. She also advocates widely for environmental protection throughout Government policy. Elaine has a PhD in Freshwater Ecology from Trinity College Dublin, and an Advanced Diploma in Planning and Environmental Law from Kings Inns. She is Vice Chair of the Sustainable Water Network (SWAN), Steering Committee member of the Environmental Pillar, and a member of both the Water Forum and the Biodiversity Forum.
