Amy Harrington is the Science and Technology Programme Manager for the RDS and is responsible for managing ESB Science Blast, an innovative educational programme for primary school children designed and delivered by the RDS. ESB Science Blast asks children (aged 8-12) to investigate a STEM question and to bring their findings to one of three showcase events. Participation at this young age opens up the possibilities of STEM to all, showing them that science is everywhere. In 2019, the inaugural year, over 12,000 children participated! Amy is a scientist and after her PhD in Biochemistry decided to pursue roles where she felt she could make a difference to the broader science agenda. A career highlight (so far!) was leading DCU to an Athena SWAN Award, an award which recognises commitment to advancing the careers of women in STEM. Now with the RDS, Amy is encouraging the next generation that STEM is an option for everyone!
